FlyStark Hosts MediaPA as Guests on Scenic Flight and Tour of Whitianga

On the first day of March, Whitianga-based airline FlyStark hosted four members of Hamilton’s MediaPA for a scenic flight and a day out, experiencing the charming town of Whitianga and Mercury Bay, on the eastern coast of the Coromandel Peninsula.
FlyStark offers scheduled, scenic and charter flights between its bases at Whitianga, Te Kowhai and Ardmore airfields, as well as a special service for travellers from Auckland, whisking them out of the big city to Ardmore, to fly to the regions, including pickups from Auckland International Airport.
FlyStark CEO Ray Stark and Quality Control Officer David Stark met the MediaPA team at Te Kowhai Airfield, just north of Hamilton, for the 40-minute flight to Whitianga on board ZK-FSS, one of FlyStark’s GippsAero GA8 Airvans.
Pilot Mark Hedley helped the guests to board and gave a thorough safety briefing before treating them to a smooth flight, sitting at an altitude of 1,100 feet to glide under the clouds, then ascending to 2,500 feet over the Coromandel Range.
With Great Barrier Island appearing on the horizon to the north of the peninsula, Mark executed a flawless landing at Whitianga Airfield and the passengers were transferred to a waiting FlyStark eight-seater van and taken to the French Fig Café for coffee and a muffin, then to the Whitianga Wharf for an informative tour around the Mercury Bay coastline, viewing Cathedral Cove, Shakespeare Cliff and the Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve, with Cathedral Cove Scenic Cruises.
By lunchtime, the guests had worked up an appetite and FlyStark did not disappoint, treating them to a delicious meal and a tour of the Lost Spring Day Spa and Café, before the return flight from Whitianga to Te Kowhai.
FlyStark’s services have filled a much-needed gap in the tourism market, by eliminating the long and windy drive through the Coromandel Peninsula to popular spots such as Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach.
