New directors have been appointed to the boards of two companies owned,
and one company jointly-owned, by the Waitaki District Council.

The appointments to Waitaki District Health Services (which operates
Oamaru Hospital), Waitaki Development Board Ltd (economic development
and tourism) and Omarama Airfield Limited (fifty percent owned by
Council) were confirmed last Tuesday as part of the Council's annual
review of company directorships.

Christopher Swann was appointed to the Waitaki District Health Services
board as a replacement for Tony Alden, who retired after serving as a
director since 1998. Mr Swann is a chartered accountant from Dunedin
who brings with him valuable experience through his previous work with
the Health Services.

George Berry (chairman) was reappointed as a director of the Health
Services board.

Scott Elliffe, an Oamaru-based business operator and entrepreneur, who
has considerable experience in marketing, promotional and tourism
activities, was appointed as a director of Waitaki Development Board
Ltd.

Peter Robinson (chairman) and Fraser McKenzie were both reappointed as
directors of the Development Board.

Omarama farmer David Anderson was appointed to the board of Omarama
Airfield Limited as a replacement for Paul Chisnall, who retired from
the board this year. Mr Anderson, who has served on the board
previously, brings with him valuable flying and business experience,
along with an in-depth knowledge of the local community.

Waitaki Mayor Alex Familton commented on the increased number of
directorship applications this year and the high quality of those
applications.

"After seeing a decline in the number of directorship applications over
previous years, it is pleasing to see that this trend has reversed, with
the number expressing an interest in directorships steadily increasing
since 2005. It is also pleasing and encouraging to see that we are
able to attract applications from so many people with a great depth of
ability and experience," he said.

Mr Familton paid tribute to the contributions of retiring directors Mr
Alden and Mr Chisnall.

"Both Mr Alden and Mr Chisnall have contributed a great deal to these
companies. Their contribution has been invaluable and Council thanks
them for their service to the boards," he said.
