Big red bins will be on permanent location at Norsewood, Akitio and Pongaroa during the summer as the council extends its recycling facilities into the smaller communities.

And later in the month a bin at Weber will be added into the system alternating fortnightly with Herbertville, waste minimisation officer Jeremy Hirst reports.

As a reminder he asks that 1 and 2 plastics only are recycled and that items should be placed in the bins and not stacked at the side.

Bins are monitored and replaced when they are full so to avoid untidiness people are asked to take their recycling home and to return the next day.

Mr Hirst said that two incidents of arson attacks on bins at Woodville and Pahiatua and paper being set alight were “not such good news” for the district.
