DANNEVIRKE

Work on the first section of the Dannevirke Town Centre refurbishment is nearly finished now although there is still work to do early in the New Year contract manager Julian McKean reports.

This will include paving at the Gordon and Allardice St corners and the inlaying of paver bands.

Access to shops and offices will be maintained along High St and side streets when the project resumes although Mr McKean warns business operators that the complete reconstruction of footpaths and kerbs will inevitably involve some disruption.

The contractors will work on completing short sections at a time to minimise inconvenience.

Work will generally proceed from north to south and be confined to one side of High St at a time.

Vigilance is required from all users of High St during the project from drivers of heavy trucks and motorists to pedestrians.

Through traffic has alternative routes beginning at Rawhiti St railway crossing for northbound traffic and Swinburn St for southbound traffic.

Engineering and landscape plans are available for public viewing at the district council Dannevirke office at 26 Gordon St or the public library in Station St.

Mr McKean is also available to provide information and can be reached at the council office or directly on 027 601 1010.
