To make community changes it doesn’t take much time. Put the right people around you and good stuff happens,” says Chris Rollitt, who is standing for the Hamilton City Council in the upcoming Hamilton East election.

Heavily involved in the organic growth of the Hamilton East community, Chris Rollitt is the former owner of successful The Cook Bar and Restaurant, a co-founder of the Hamilton East Community Trust, Organiser the Bridge to Bridge Water Ski Classic between 2010 and 2012 to showcase the Waikato River, an active Sponsor and Co-ordinator of Steele Park Touch Rugby and someone who see the importance in recognition of heritage and community value in Hamilton.

These plus many more initiatives, such as the creation of the Grey Street Sunday markets, Steele Park Playground update and mover of the Hamilton Gardens underpass show something about Chris Rollitt than cannot be said for everyone; Chris is involved with making things happen.

“With all of the things that I involve myself in it is so that it is free for the community and family orientated,” explains Chris when asked about why he get involved with the projects he does.

“I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing things develop,” Chris adds.

When asked about what can help sustain Hamilton areas, such as Hamilton East and their development, Chris was enthusiastic about how he plans to develop sustainability throughout Hamilton with upcoming projects for the city.

“I love development but I want to see sustainable development. Economic and social benefits together make for sustainability,” Says Chris.

“Hamilton East has done an amazing job growing organically but without the Hamilton City Council prioritising its resources and projects correctly we cannot develop our city overall how we should able to,” Chris explains.

Chris believes in a ‘balanced approach’ to all things and is certain he can make things happen if he can be elected to the council. Chris also believes he “Offers a very real and practical solution to Hamilton City’s representation going forward,” and that he presents all the traits and work ethic of a leader that is strong and capable if he were to become an elected representative.
