The Ministry of Health has held its inaugural summit for information and technology vendors and other service providers titled Leading The Changes - Improving Health Information And Connectivity Through The Next Decade.

The purpose of yesterday's event was to share the Government’s vision on health and disability priorities, particularly how the Ministry’s diverse information work programmes assist in achieving positive health outcomes for New Zealanders. Areas covered included primary care, mental health, disability support services, public health, provider funding and performance, health connectivity, access and integration with the Ministry of Health, health payments, contracts and claims, health statistics and reporting.

The Ministry approached the State Services Commission to gain insight into the running of their IT Summit held in February 2007. The collaboration between the agencies resulted in a high quality event.

Debbie Chin, the Ministry’s Deputy Director-General for the Corporate and Information Directorate was the brainchild behind the event and says she was delighted with registration by suppliers of service for this event.

Debbie Chin says, “I had received numbers of requests from suppliers and vendors for an event of this nature, so it was great to see a turn out of this magnitude. The Ministry of Health has already received very positive feedback on yesterday's event."

The Ministry used the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS) to notify nationwide vendors of this event so they could register their interest in attending. Using this method generated international interest by multinational corporations wishing to collaborate with New Zealand businesses to offer information and technology solutions.

Approximately 150 organisations were represented at the event. It is likely Leading the Changes will become an annual event and coincide with the release of the annual procurement plan.
