The Waiuku Outdoor Swimming Pool opened for the summer season on 7th January. The opening of the pool was delayed after it was confirmed in October 2007 that essential electrical work was needed. Franklin District Council decided not to open the pool until the electrical work was complete to ensure public safety.

The pool is now open from 10am to 6pm every day for the rest of the summer. It is also open from 7am Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for early morning swims until 29th February when the use of the pool in the early mornings will be reviewed. If the early morning option proves popular, Council can continue opening the pool for these mornings.

To thank the community for their patience, and to acknowledge the inconvenience the extended closure caused, the community will be able to enjoy a 50% discount week from 28th January to 3rd February.

During that week a child, pensioner or student casual entry to the pool will cost only 70 cents. An adult will be able to enter the pool for only $1.20.*

Franklin District Council has not worked alone in ensuring the pool could open this season.

“We set a difficult task for the contractors – they had the expectations of the whole community for a quick and professional job – and they delivered. A big thank you to the project consultants, MWH, and the contractors, Shove Electrical Ltd. A special thank you to the Waiuku community who supported us in finding a solution and getting the job done. The discount week is just a small way we can thank you for your patience,” says Franklin District Council’s Property Manager, Gwyn De-Arth.
