Now is the time to get involved in the district planning process with two more plan changes notified for public submission today (Wednesday).

Plan Change 28: Trails was initiated in response to concerns raised by landowners regarding potential effects to the future development of their land caused by allowing trails.

“The plan change has arisen out of how the District Plan uses the terms public place and places frequented by the public generally when assessing the landscape effects of potential developments,” Queenstown Lakes District Council policy planner Daniel Wells said.

“This issue meant it was becoming difficult for the Wakatipu Trails Trust and Upper Clutha Tracks Trust to negotiate and form walkways across private land,” he said.

The plan change proposes that trails formed after 11 December 2007 not be considered public places or places frequented by the public generally.

Plan change 32: Ballantyne Road Oxidation Ponds proposes to rezone land containing the Wanaka oxidation ponds from the current Rural General Zone to a Special (Ballantyne Road Mixed Use) Zone.

The intention was to allow for yard based industry and mixed business/office activities on the land.

“The proposal is consistent with the recently adopted review of the Wanaka Structure Plan as well as responding to a demand for yard based industry which was identified in the Commercial Land Needs Analysis, adopted by the council in 2006,” senior policy analyst Alyson Schuler said.

Section 32 analysis and proposed plan provisions for both plan changes could be found on the council website – www.qldc.govt.nz at council offices in Wanaka and Queenstown and Libraries district-wide.

Both plan changes were open for submission until Monday, February 18.
