New Zealand First has vowed to oppose raising the age of superannuation eligibility and to fight any reduction in superannuation payments. This follows an OECD report which provides unpalatable recommendations on retirement savings policies.

"New Zealand First has made alleviating the plight of our seniors a core aspect of our work in Parliament and we will continue to champion their cause," said economic development spokesperson Doug Woolerton.

"We have fought very hard to increase superannuation by more than $20 a week for married couples and $13 a week for singles and we are working towards having the SuperGold card in place by August.

"During the 1990s, New Zealand First scrapped the iniquitous surtax and fought against National's attempts to slash superannuation. Nonetheless, National later reduced the superannuation 'floor' to 60 percent of the net average wage.

"New Zealand First will continue to fight for a decent retirement for seniors and against such scroogean economics," concluded Mr Woolerton.
