As the New Year opens work has restarted on the next stage of the Town Centre Refurbishment.

Beginning on January the 7th main contractor Infracon has shifted operations to the east side of High Street between Gordon and McPhee streets while sub-contractor Creations Paving complete the west side.

Summer conditions are ideal for making good progress and Infracon hopes to have the new section substantially complete by late February.

Once again the work involves storm water piping and connections to business premises, all new kerb and channel, ducting for a digital network and resurfacing of the footpaths.

Gardens beside the public restrooms at the Town Hall car park will be remade and new street furniture and lighting installed.

Creations Paving are now finishing the Gordon and Allardice street corners and will inlay decorative paver bands along the newly asphalted footpaths.

Balustrades, lighting, rubbish bins, seats and tree sites will soon appear.

The street furniture has been carefully and skillfully created by Dannevirke’s own world class fabricator Metalform to add a touch of sophistication and style to the new townscape.

During the year the project will move from north to south through the central business area in short stages. Infracon is committed to causing the least possible disruption and maintaining access for all. The public should not be afraid of asking staff for directions or assistance. Comments, concerns and questions are welcome. Council Engineering Assistant Julian McKean (027 601 1010) and Project Liaison Officer Bob Dresser (027 444 3301) will be happy to respond to your enquiries.
