SANSON residents are being requested to conserve water by the Manawatu District Council until further notice.

Water Manager, Wayne Spencer, said problems were being experienced in maintaining an adequate supply of water to the intake pump at Ngaio Rd and he has asked consumers connected to Sanson's water supply to restrict their water usage.

"The problems are a consequence of the extended dry period and the lowering of the ground water table in the general area," he said.

Mr Spencer said a water tanker would be available in the town from 8am tomorrow (Saturday) at Shell Garage Sanson for residents needing supplies.

He said residents needed to take their own containers suitable for holding water and to fill the containers themselves.

"Should the tanker not be there at times during the day, the reason is that it is being filled, which takes about one-and-a-half hours."

Mr Spencer encouraged residents to be responsible with their water use and to immediately report any leakage to the council on (06) 323-0000.
