The City Council will shortly conduct a survey of its residents as part of its commitment to actively seek public opinion and involvement.

The annual Communitrak survey beings on Friday, February 8, and will take about 10 days to complete.

The National Research Bureau, a professional organisation offering specialist services to local authorities throughout New Zealand, has been commissioned to carry out the survey and report its findings to the City Council.

LTCC Coordinator, Tracey Boukhelida, says the Council has a responsibility to track how well its efforts are carrying through to residents. The best way is to interview a representative cross-section of people and to have this done by an independent group to ensure impartiality she says.

“The results will be available in time to feed them into the Draft Annual Plan consultation which is year three of the 10 Year Plan. This is a good chance for the Council to hear the views of a wide range of the community,” Tracey comments.

People living in all five Wards of the city will be telephoned, using a randomised selection method and asked their opinions on a wide ranging list of services and issues relating to the Council and the services it delivers to residents of Palmerston North North.

Tracey says the survey gives Councillors and Managers important information on how people feel about Council services.

“The information helps us make decisions about our services. If you are phoned by the National Research Bureau I urge you to take a few minutes to respond,” she says.
