Franklin District Council Mayor, Mark Ball, has confirmed that he will challenge the country for the title of ‘Cycle Mad District’ in this year’s Franklin District Bike Wise event.

Held on Tuesday 26 February, 6-8pm at Pukekohe Park Raceway, the Mayoral Challenge gives the community a chance to chase the Mayor around the track as well as enjoying a fun night of cycling and entertainment.

Franklin District will be competing against districts across the country so the Mayor needs as many people as possible to bring their bikes down for a picnic and fun night of cycling.

The more riders the more points*, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a big district to win;

“You don’t win by having a big population – you win by having a community that is proud to get behind local events. Let’s show those big cities what living in a strong community is all about!” says Mayor Mark Ball.

More details of the event are due out soon. It is anticipated there will be events for young and old, competitive and non-competitive as well as other fun activities. The brand new Avanti bike the Mayor will ride is to be given away at the end of the night as well as other spot prizes.

“Already we have had local businesses and organisations keen to be involved, including Radical Rydz, Counties Manukau Sport, New Zealand Police and the Pukekohe Park Raceway. We are really looking forward to the event and couldn’t do it without them – or the community showing up on the night!” says Mayor Ball.
