Taupo District Council is activating their workplace by promoting active transport to ensure their staff are fitter, happier and healthier.

Active transport is a workplace wellbeing programme run by Toi Te Ora Public Health. It targets office-based workplaces by providing an eight week series of emails to employees with practical tips on how to incorporate walking and cycling into their everyday travel.

Businesses can still register for the event which will coincide with the national Bike Wise Week and the Bike Wise Business Battle, which sees businesses vying for the title of New Zealand’s most cycle friendly workplace.

Taupo District Council departments will be getting involved in the programme and Mayor Rick Cooper says that it fits in nicely with Council’s community outcomes.

“This is a great initiative that will help us all to be healthier and happier in our workplace.”

“I encourage office workers to get active and make the most of Taupo’s beautiful environment, whether it’s walking or on a bike” says Mayor Rick

Taupo District Council, with support from Top Gear Cycles, has purchased commuting bikes for staff to use when moving around the CBD and hopes other businesses will follow suit.
