Potential to to develop Queen's Wharf
The potential to develop Queen’s Wharf as a point of entry for the cruise ship industry is an exciting opportunity for our region’s visitor economy.
Each cruise ship that stops in Auckland brings a minimum of $1million for our economy.
It’s a fast growing part of the visitor economy, but unless we invest in it we will not achieve all the benefits or remain a port of choice.
This year 120,000 visitors came to Auckland as part of the cruise ship activity – 4 years ago this was only 30,000.
We need to invest in an appropriate cruise ship facility – if Queen’s Wharf in its present condition was an international airport – and that’s a function it performs – we would be outraged.
