Coastal Erosion Causes Beach Road Closure

Beach Road has been temporarily closed from Gardiners Road to Thousand Acre Road. A detour has been put in place, which will divert traffic along the unsealed length of Gardiners Road and along Thousand Acre Road to Beach Road.

Waitaki District Council has taken this measure following the severe damage caused to Beach Road on Sunday by high seas and stormy weather.

Arrangements are being made for dust suppression on Gardiners Road.

Work is underway to stabilise the road. Council will evaluate Beach Road’s future re-opening as soon as possible.

Council regrets any inconvenience to motorists.
