New water bore connected
SANSON’S new permanent bore near the Rangitikei River has been completed and the town’s normal water supply restored.
Dropping river levels because of the “big dry” impacting on the Manawatu District had disrupted the supply, with water having to be trucked in from Feilding and a temporary intake installed.
Water Manager, Wayne Spencer, said the bore had been drilled to a depth of 10.6 metres without any problems and within the expected time frame.
A second bore is to be drilled in the same area so it can operate from the other and act as a backup if needed.
Mr Spencer said the new bore was an attempt to eliminate any future water supply problems to Sanson.
“It gives us more robustness and durability to the supply.”
He said the temporary measures had worked well, though the town’s reservoirs had to be topped up a few times.
“There was the occasional air lock in the system, but that was an operational problem rather than a water supply issue.”
Sanson’s water consumers had been asked to conserve water because of the temporary nature of the supply.
