Cool new plans for playground
A revamped playground complete with a spacenet, taniwha slide and goldfields theme is being proposed for Queenstown Bay but before plans can progress feedback is needed, Queenstown Lakes District Council community services chairman Leigh Overton said.
Comment was now being sought on a draft concept plan for the playground. “The existing playground at Queenstown Bay is nearing the end of its useful lifespan, and requires a complete renewal,” Cr Overton said
The concept design had been prepared around goldfields themes and mythical and magical creatures and the council wanted to hear from the community on the proposed design.
“In particular we would love parents to sit down with their children, talk through the plans and give us feedback as a family,” Cr Overton said.
The proposal was to develop a ‘destination status’ by creating a significant playground ($500,000) with a large variety of activities that accommodated a wide range of age groups and incorporated more adventurous structures. The proposal included:
Play activities to encourage children to pretend, climb, rock, spin, swing and slide.
The stream and trees become features with a bridge crossing and rope climbers. Landscaping uses local rock to create a goldfields theme.
Within the playground, layout creates circuits for children to run around and defines areas for junior and senior play.
“Feedback is very important to ensure a level of input or buy-in by the community for a project of this scale,” Cr Overton said.
The plans were now available at the Queenstown council office and library on Gorge Road or could be viewed on the council website www.qldc.govt.nz .Please give your feedback in writing and send it to General Manager, Community Services, Private Bag 50072, Queenstown 9348, or email to services@qldc.govt.nz, or dropped into the Queenstown council office. Comment will close on 4 April, 2008.
