Buses roll out for rugby kick off

The Super 14 rugby home games kick off this Saturday night with the Chiefs taking on the Warratahs, and Environment Waikato, Hamilton City Council and the Waikato Rugby Union are again supporting the games with free shuttle buses from the central city.

Buses will leave from Hood St outside the Knox St carpark. They will depart every 10 minutes from an hour before the 7.35pm kick off and travel via Victoria, Ulster and Abbotsford Sts to the ground. Passengers will be picked up at any official stop along the way.

Directly after the final whistle, return buses will leave from Tristram Street near the Mill St intersection. The buses will travel back to the CBD via Anglesea, Knox and Victoria Sts. Again, drop offs will be made at any official bus stop.

Environment Waikato’s land transport operations manager Russell Turnbull said the free buses have proved popular in the past, and are a good way of avoiding having to find a park near the ground.

“People also have the option of catching a bus into town from home and then getting a shuttle to the ground. They can then get a Night Rider bus from town after the match. That way they can leave the car at home entirely.”

The free bus service will be the same for every home Super 14 game except the 18 April contest against the Crusaders, when the route will be changed because of the V8s event.

Details of the route change for that match will be advised closer to the time.
There will also be a free bus service for the NZ Maori versus Samoa game on 21 June.
All games start at 7.35pm.
