New Award For Sportsperson Of The Year

Sportsperson of the Year organisers have announced a new ‘volunteer’ award expanding the popular annual event from five categories to six.


Pip Hubbard Sport Tararua said the new category has been split from the Administrator/Official of the Year Award following a decision by last year’s judges to restructure the event.


The categories will now be: Sportsperson of the Year, Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Official of the Year and Administrator/Volunteer of the Year.


All individual nominees will be eligible for the ‘People’s Choice Personality of the year Award which will be decided by public vote.


The awards cover a wide range of people involved with sport and are a great way to recognise the time and commitment to sport in the Tararua region, Ms Hubbard said.


“So get behind your team, coach, volunteer or a sportsperson who has done well in the last 12 months and nominate them for this year’s awards.”


This year’s Infracon Tararua Sportsperson of the Year Awards will be held at Pahiatua Stadium on Thursday April 24 2008.


Nominations open on Monday February 25 with forms available from all Tararua District Council offices, Sport Manawatu, and Sport Tararua.


The closing date for nominations is March 21 2008.
