Botany bag snatch offenders arrested
Otara Police have arrested three men and a young person in connection to unlawfully taken cars and stealing hand bags from mostly Asian woman at shopping centre car parks in the Botany Downs area during the last 4 months.
These arrests followed the execution of 9 search warrants in Manukau involving 35 police officers today. Since 16 April 2007 a special operation was mounted in response to a spate of such offences in the Te Irirangi/Cavenish Drive corridor between Botany Downs Shopping Mall and Manukau Service Centre. Police have recovered a quantity of stolen property amounting to approximately $5,000 in value.
The persons arrested are from Otara and are aged between 15 and 17 years. They will be appearing at the Manukau Youth and District Courts tomorrow on a total of 36 charges which include Robbery, unlawfully taking motor cars, Theft, receiving stolen goods and burglary.
Enquiries are continuing to locate a further 6 men and young persons in relation to Operation SNATCH.
