Preparations for WOMAD 2008 will require Brooklands Zoo to shut temporarily from Tuesday (11 March) next week.

“There will be a lot of trucks and heavy equipment on Brooklands Park Dr and in the zoo’s car park, so we think it’s a matter of public safety that we close from 11 March until the start of WOMAD,” says Curator Pukekura Park Chris Connolly.

The zoo itself will be part of WOMAD when it is transformed into the KidZone on the Saturday and Sunday of the event.

Meanwhile a colouring-in competition is being held for children aged 12 and under, with the winners of three age groups receiving a double one-day pass to WOMAD. Entry forms are available from Brooklands Zoo, the Civic Centre, Puke Ariki and district libraries.

After WOMAD, the zoo will be closed to the public on Monday 17 March while the event is disestablished, and it will reopen as normal on Tuesday 18 March.
