The White Ferns prepared for their Rose Bowl challenge with a four-wicket Twenty20 victory over Australia at Lincoln’s Bert Sutcliffe Oval.

The New Zealanders will now look to reclaim the Rose Bowl from the world champions in the five-match series, starting Saturday (8 March).

Captain Haidee Tiffen guided the home team to victory in the curtain raiser after excellent work in the field limited the Southern Stars’ innings to 80 for nine.

Tiffen said: “It was a really important win because it was the first time we have beaten Australia in Twenty20s.

“The performance in the field was one of the best I’ve been involved in with the White Ferns and it allowed the bowlers to take the opportunities presented.

“It sets up the series really well. Our bowlers will have to work hard and we will look to our top five batsmen to bat through the innings.

“We will have to play well consistently in order to set big scores or chase down totals.”

All five Rose Bowl ODI matches take place at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln. Play commences 10.30am and admission is free.
