Bryan Simmonds has been appointed BikeNZ High Performance Logistics Manager.

Simmonds has a long career in cycling administration at a regional and national level and is currently acting Performance Director at BikeNZ. Simmonds has managed numerous New Zealand cycling teams including those to the 2004 Athens Olympic, the 2004 World Track Championships and the 2002 Commonwealth Games. He is currently chairman of the BikeNZ High Performance Panel.

Simmonds said he is looking forward to continuing working as part of the BikeNZ High Performance programme towards Beijing and London, as well as working with recently appointed Performance Director Mark Elliott. “I am looking forward to working with Mark (Elliott) to ensure all programmes and plans are in place so that, among other things, athletes across all cycling codes are able to achieve their true potential and peak at the pinnacle events”.

BikeNZ Chief Executive Rodger Thompson said “Bryan brings logistical experience from Commonwealth and Olympic events that will enable BikeNZ to build truly world-class systems to deliver our High Performance Programme. As we look to Beijing (2008 Olympics) and beyond to the 2012 Olympics, building our systems and structures is key if our riders are to be given the best possible chance of succeeding in international competition”.

Simmonds begins his new role on 18 June.
