Notices of meetings for all river ratepayers in Environment Canterbury’s Southern Area will soon be in the post, and in the public notices columns of local newspapers as dates are set to elect the river liaison committees in the area.

The meetings for the 12 to 15 river and drainage areas will be held either the week before, or the week after Easter, and ECan’s senior engineering officer Bruce Scarlett says this is the chance for all ratepayers to have their say.

Elections of the new liaison committees are held every third year after the local body elections and most need between six and 10 members. Also on the committees will be representatives from Central South Island Fish and Game Council, the Department of Conservation, tangata whenua and the local district councils.
