Waitakere United win nine goal semi final
Waitakere United and Team Wellington fought out a goal laden match in the National Youth League semi final at Douglas Field today with attacking endeavour winning over defensive frailties from both sides as Waitakere won through to the final in a 5-4 thriller.
In what has become typical of the Waitakere side throughout this competition they attacked and scored goals at will but frustrated the coaching staff by leading goals just as quickly, often immediately after scoring themselves.
That was illustrated clearly when the two sides shared six goals in the opening 23 minutes of the second half. Each time it was Team Wellington taking the lead but Waitakere kept at them and eventually scored two back to back to take a lead they never relinquished.
Waitakere held on in surprisingly quiet final 15 minutes after the initial goal fest in the first half of the second 45 minutes and will now play Canterbury United in the National Youth League final next weekend. Venue and time for that match is yet to be confirmed.
