Public consultation on a Christchurch City Council proposal to allow trams in the City Mall, plus two other proposals, opens today and will close on 21 April.

The Council is proposing that the Special Order declaring the City Mall a pedestrian mall be varied to allow for the operation of trams. This would allow for the proposed extension of the tram route via Oxford Terrace, Cashel Mall, Cashel Street, Manchester Street, High Street, High Street Mall, Colombo Street and Cathedral Square.

The two other proposals relate to establishing a Canterbury-wide regional governance group and establishing a new council-controlled organisation for the purpose of continuing the development of the new civic building.

Copies of the documents in respect to the proposals are available from Monday 17 March 2008 during ordinary office hours at the following places:

Civic Offices, 163 Tuam Street, Christchurch (reception, ground floor)
All Christchurch City Council libraries
All Christchurch City Council service centres.

They may also be viewed on the Council’s website at www.ccc.govt.nz  and can be requested by phoning (03) 941-8999, or 0800 800 169 (freephone for Banks Peninsula residents only).
