Hon Judith Tizard, Associate Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, today announced the reappointment of Colonel Joe Walker as a member of the National War Memorial Advisory Council.

Colonel Walker has been reappointed for a further term ending on 30 November 2009. A retired colonel with thirty years' Army service, he was Comptroller of the Household at Government House for six years. He recently retired as National Manager for Regional Fundraising for the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind.

Ms Tizard expressed her confidence in the reappointed member. "I am delighted that Colonel Walker has agreed to continue to serve on the National War Memorial Advisory Council. I value his experience and am confident that he will continue to add value to the Council's deliberations."

The National War Memorial Advisory Council advises the Ministers for Arts, Culture and Heritage on all matters relevant to the control and maintenance of the National War Memorial.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON APPOINTEE

Colonel Joseph Walker of Cambridge is a retired colonel with thirty years' Army service. He was Comptroller of the Household at Government House for six years and recently retired as National Manager for Regional Fundraising for the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind. He is the nominee of the Chief of NZ Defence Forces and has completed one term on the Council.
