Taupo is to be a part of a regional “Recycling in Public Places” project which will see 30 recycling bins located in the town centre, lakefront, reserves and other tourist locations.

The Council will receive $165,000 from Ministry for the Environment for the three-year project which aims to encourage recycling as well as enhance New Zealand’s clean, green image worldwide.

Councillor Barry Hickling says the project has a multitude of benefits for Taupo.

“The bins will make recycling easy, particularly for visitors. It will reduce the amount of waste going into our landfill and help boost Taupo’s reputation as one of the most naturally beautiful spots on New Zealand.”

The recycling project will commence before the end of June.
