Taupo District Council will receive an increase of 2.1 percent to the remuneration pool it uses to pay elected members.

The Remuneration Authority, an independent statutory body, is responsible for setting the remuneration for a local council's elected members. Taken into account are factors such as the area’s population and council’s operating expenditure, not the number of elected members.

In consultation with the council, it then distributes that pool of money to the council's elected members.

From 1 July 2008, the overall remuneration pool for Taupo District Council will be $413,463 which will be distributed among the Mayor and ten councillors through a combination of salaries and meeting attendance fees.
