Geotechnical work for new pipeline
A detour will be in place on the Frankton Track for 2-3 days next week (April 1–3) so that an upgrade to a waste water main pipeline can be investigated.
“We will be looking at an upgrade in the near future but it’s critical at this stage that we undertake a geotechnical investigation as part of the options assessment,” Queenstown Lakes District Council acting water services manager John Porter said.
The importance of the track access for commuters had been recognised and work would be confined to after 9am and before 4pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (as a contingency), next week.
“Fortunately there is a good walkway along Frankton Road and regular track users will be able to detour up onto the footpath while the work is being undertaken,” Mr Porter said.
The temporary detour would extend from Park Street to Frankton Beach.
