The footpath in front of a block of shops on Rifle Range Road is currently being upgraded by Taupo District Council.

The retailers in the shopping centre near the corner of Kiwi Street are pleased that the footpath is going to be widened and cobbled. A bike rack will be installed and a ‘blister island’ constructed between the car park and Rifle Range Road to improve traffic safety in the area.

Zest Café owner Greg Heffernan says the upgraded footpath will improve the area’s aesthetics and make it more user-friendly and safe for consumers.

“It’s a good thing for all the businesses there. The widened footpath will enable us to provide our alfresco service more effectively and in a convivial environment for our customers without impacting our neighbouring stores,” said Mr Heffernan.

The construction, which is being partly funded by shop owners, is expected to be completed by 30 April. Access to the shops will remain open and limited parking available
