Green Party MP Metiria Turei is nearing the end of her summer programme of triathlons, with her last two events taking place this weekend, on the 5th and 6th of April.

On Saturday, she will complete the Forest and Bird Race for our River which aims to raise awareness of the need to protect the Manawatu River.

“The Green Party have been outspoken on water quality issues, and the Manawatu River in particular suffers from sewage – both human and animal, and industrial pollution,” Mrs Turei says.

“The Manawatu River is high on the list of New Zealand’s most abused waterways and I look forward to doing more to draw attention to Manawatu region’s water issues.

“I am also looking forward to the bouncy-castle section of the event.

“On Sunday I will complete the last event in my summer sport programme of madness - the More FM Women’s Triathlon, where I will run the 10 kilometre course.

“I’m not sure how I will fill my weekends after I have finished my last event. Perhaps I will take up a winter sport. Curling is very popular in my hometown Dunedin.”
