Commonwealth Games gold medallist Moss Burmester will put hard practice to the test in Brisbane tonight.

Burmester and coach Jam Cameron have spent the last three weeks training with superstar Michael Phelps at the US training base in Colorado Springs.

They have flown in to Brisbane on the way home to compete in the first leg of the Telstra Grand Prix Meet at Brisbane’s Chandler Centre.

Cameron is not expecting too much from her charge after an exhausting training regime with Phelps and his Club Wolverines and Michigan University elite squad members.

They were undertaking 20 sessions in an eight day set with one day off, with a session lasting 90 minutes along with a further three hours each day of dry land training after each pool session.

“It’s been an incredible experience and extremely tough but Moss has really thrived on the challenge,” Cameron said. “The swimmers and coaches blended us in and its been great fun and really stimulating for both of us. It will be interesting how Moss performs but after an extremely hard three weeks and a long flight I am not expecting too much.”

Burmester has the heats of his favoured 200m butterfly tonight, with finals tomorrow morning and the 200m freestyle tomorrow evening.

Manawatu teenager Cara Baker will compete in the 800m freestyle.
