BikeNZ National Coach, Terry Gyde, announced today he was stepping down from his role.

In making the announcement he said that he felt now was the right time for him to return to his role as personal coach to some of NZ’s top cyclists.

“I have reflected long and hard on the positive progress of the track team and its longer term prospects leading into the London Olympics.

I have decided that in order to further increase the current momentum, a fresh approach is now needed.

I have been considering this option for quite some time and the catalyst for making the decision now is the appointment of the new High Performance Director. He comes with a diverse and successful background and I am comfortable that he will be able to continue to improve the current programme.

I will still continue to work with a number of NZ’s elite riders, and look forward to continuing my relationship with BikeNZ in my role as personal coach.”

The CEO of BikeNZ, Rodger Thompson, said that Terry Gyde had been a key member of BikeNZ’s high performance programme.

“The national team has been very successful during Terry’s regime and we are grateful for his contribution to its success. Terry is a long term member of the cycling fraternity and we look forward to an ongoing relationship with him in his role as personal coach to some of our leading cyclists.”
