Taupo and Waikato are still in drought conditions despite recent rain.

Lake Taupo services far more than just supplying water to the Taupo District so we all need to be wise about our water use.

Council’s Environmental Educator, Sarah Painter, says the rain that has come with the change in seasons is not yet enough to have had a significant impact on lake levels.

“With the onset of autumn there may be a sense that the water crisis is over. However we need a lot of rain before the lake level will even begin to return to normal.”

To reduce your water use, adjust your garden watering habits according to the weather. Automatic sprinkler systems can be turned off and watering is only required if there has been no significant rain for a few days.
