Hamilton residents urged to plan ahead for V8s traffic
“While Environment Waikato’s transport team has put months of planning into ensuring Hamilton buses run as smoothly as possible this week, this is a huge event and it’s inevitable some delays will occur for bus passengers, motorists and other travellers,” Environment Waikato’s land transport operations manager Russell Turnbull said.
“In light of this, we’re asking people who need to move around the city to allow plenty of time to get to their destination and to avoid travelling at peak times if possible.
“We also encourage residents to walk, bike or take buses instead of taking their cars into town, as parking will be very limited.
“Special bus services are running for the V8s, but delays and waits will be unavoidable on some bus services at peak times, because of the sheer number of people moving around the city.”
Cycle parks are available in Garden Place and at Whitiora School.
Hamilton city bus services will continue to operate throughout the Hamilton 400, but there will be changes to routes and timetables.
Route changes will be take effect from Thursday and timetable changes from Friday, with all services returning to normal on Monday.
A special Night Rider bus service will take passengers to and from Collingwood St, stopping between Victoria St and Anglesea St, every half hour from midnight to 4.30am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
For visitors travelling to Hamilton on the day, Hamilton 400 event organisers have arranged park and ride services so people can park around the city’s edge and bus into the city. Parking sites will be marked with large signs on SH1.
