Emblen confirmed for another season
Waitakere United has received a boost on the eve of the New Zealand Football Championship Grand Final with news that Neil Emblen has re-signed for the club in all of his capacities for another season.
The central defender is expected to play a key role at the heart of Waitakere’s defence at Douglas Field on Sunday but has played an even more influential role in his capacity as Assistant Coach to Chris Milicich and Director of Youth Football for the club as a whole.
Executive Chairman Rex Dawkins is delighted to have secured Emblen for another year.
“Neil has been superb value for the club and the community in his three roles. Clearly as a player he ranks as one of the best in the NZFC, his coaching role is one he is committed to developing in the long term but already he has given great support to Chris (Milicich) and the players.
“But it is in his role as Director of Youth Development that Neil has perhaps had the biggest impact. His work in the community and with our Academy players and coaches has been superb. As a club we are committed to providing great value to our community and growing the game, Neil is a great asset in that regard.”
Emblen has enjoyed his work at the club and is looking forward to continuing in all areas.
“The chance to work fulltime in the game with Waitakere United has been fantastic and I have loved every minute of it from putting our community programmes together, working with our Academy and National Youth League players and of course working with Chris and the first team. There is so much potential for the game to grow and develop further in our region, I’m excited about the chance to continue on the many projects we have underway.”
Emblen’s focus for the moment is on Sunday’s NZFC Grand Final against Team Wellington, a match he is looking forward to immensely.
“Players go through their whole careers aiming to play in cup finals or to win championships; this is why we are in the game. Sunday will be a big occasion, I can’t wait for it.”
Neil Emblen is available for interview and comment after training at Douglas Field, Trusts Stadium at 10am on Saturday morning.
