The growth of the Internet has revolutionised our lives. With access to so much information, shopping and socialising, it is hard to imagine a world without the Internet. But in a recent survey of ASB FastNet Classic customers - only 58% are completely confident about their online protection.

Customers were asked ‘How confident are you that you are taking adequate steps to protect yourself when transacting online?’*

Another 35% felt they should do more to protect themselves online. Only 6% were not at all confident and 1% didn’t care.

To help even more customers bank online with confidence and up to date protection, ASB is offering free protection (via Computer Associates) to 5,000 lucky customers. This will ensure these customers have the appropriate internet security tools to protect their computers.

“We work hard to make sure our internet banking site is secure through secure website design, fraud detection tools and our second factor authentication solution, Netcode, but customers use their computers for many other things where viruses and spies could still compromise customer data,” says Peter Muggleston, Acting Head of Technology and Operations, ASB.

“You wouldn’t leave your home with the front door open for thieves, and it’s the same with your computer. Many people don’t believe a virus will cause serious damage to their computer and stored information, but it can happen. This type of security will help our customers to minimise this threat, and protect all their computing activities, including online banking.”

5,000 existing and new ASB FastNet Classic customers will be able to download a free copy of Computer Associates internet security software from 22 April by simply signing in to the ASB FastNet Classic site and completing a security quiz.

ASB’s offer is for Computer Associates (CA) Internet Security Suite Plus 2008, which will include anti-virus and anti-spyware, a personal firewall, anti-spam, anti-phishing, data backup and transfer, plus parental controls. Once the 5,000 free licenses have been given away, customers will be able to download the software for the discounted price of $34.95 (usually $79.95).
