The National Party’s economic plan that includes investing up to $1.5 billion in ultra fast broadband is applauded by the Employers and Manufacturers Association (Northern) or EMA.

“This is one of the best pieces of news for business and the whole economy, in a long time,” says EMA chief executive, Alasdair Thompson.

“National says if it becomes government this year it will invest that money over six years to roll out fibre optic cable right to the door, first to business premises, schools, health facilities and the first tranche of homes.

“It’s hard to think of anything that would improve productivity and international business opportunities for New Zealand more than having ultra fast broadband.

“The National Party is right that bold steps are needed to improve New Zealand’s economy. And infrastructure should indeed be right up high in the list of priorities.”
