Environment Waikato’s councillors will be having their monthly meeting in Taupo on Wednesday, April 30.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting, which will begin at 10am at the Taupo District Council chambers, 72 Lake Crescent.

While in Taupo the councillors will also be taking a firsthand look at some of the issues facing the district.
“This is a great opportunity for Environment Waikato councillors to meet Taupo District councillors and the Tuwharetoa Maori Trust Board and talk about what’s going on in the area,” Environment Waikato chairman Peter Buckley said.

Environment Waikato’s Taupo councillor Laurie Burdett said the trip was an opportunity to investigate some of the big issues facing the Taupo constituency.

“We will be carrying out a number of site visits to look at the impacts of urbanisation on water quality and to investigate catchment management and erosion control issues around Lake Taupo,” Cr Burdett said.

“We will also be visiting Wairakei Pastoral sites to learn more about pine to pasture conversions.”
Environment Waikato’s monthly meetings are usually held in Hamilton.
