HASTINGS

Hastings District Council has begun the process of consulting public on the Regional Sports Park
proposal.

The submissions period closes on Monday 26 May.

Lawrence Yule, Mayor of Hastings District, said it was vital for the public to have their say on the
proposal.

“This is a significant project for Hastings District. It will offer a range of benefits to the community:
economic, social, health and fitness, as well as enhancing Hawke’s Bay’s reputation as a centre of
activity. It is important we get the make-up and implementation of the project right for our district,”
said Mr Yule.

The Regional Sports Park is proposed to be constructed in three stages. Stage one is the new
athletics track and grandstand, and is nearing completion. Stage two proposes bringing together
existing facilities due for replacement in terms of soccer and netball services. Stage three is
proposed to include the construction of a central gymsports building and a velodrome.

A summary of the proposal is currently being sent to households in Hastings District. It outlines the
three stages of the proposal and the areas the public consultation is focused on.

A display illustrating the proposal has been established in the window of the Visitor Information
Centre (i-site) on the corner of Heretaunga and Russell Streets. A website containing full
information is available through the Hastings District Council website, www.hastingsdc.govt.nz/rsp.
