Promising New Zealand triathlete Ben Visser has finished fifth today at the Noumea International Triathlon in one of the better performances of his fledgling career.

21 year old Visser performed consistently throughout the non-drafting event, exiting the water in seventh place and riding well to enter the run leg in sixth before picking up a further spot in the run home.

The event is a regular and popular one on the triathlon circuit and often attracts strong athletes from France and the Asia Pacific rim of countries, all chasing the good money on offer.

Further details and results are sketchy at this stage but Visser was pleased with his day.

“I’m pretty happy with this result, one that puts me in good stead for the World Championships in June (in Vancouver).

“The swim was good and I felt pretty strong on the run. I struggled a little for rhythm on the bike though but overall it was a good day. My goal before the race was top ten and stay in good shape with Vancouver in mind as the priority this year and I have achieved both.”

Visser’s result caps a great weekend for Tri NZ following on the heels of Sam Warriner’s win and Bevan Docherty’s second place at the Tongyeong World Cup in South Korea.
