Stop Splashing Out With Taxpayers' Money
With soaring prices putting the squeeze on Kiwi families throughout the country, now is not the time for politicians to be spending more money, ACT Leader Rodney Hide said today.
"Heading into election year we see the National Party, not only matching but, increasing Labour's spend-up by $1.5 billion - it all comes out of hardworking Kiwis' pay packets," Mr Hide said.
"In response, Labour will spend more this Budget - which National will then match.
"With the current state of the economy, and the effect it is having on Kiwi families, this is no time to be splashing out with taxpayers' money. Rather, it is time to put a freeze on tax levels.
"It's time to recognise Taxpayer Rights and allow taxpayers to have a real say on the total tax take. We need to freeze the tax take in real terms and subject increases to taxpayers having a say - after all, it's their money," Mr Hide said.
