1. SwimSure

Absolute Insurance, corporate sponsors of SNZ, have just launched their SwimSure Club Fundraising program. This program is designed to help Clubs raise funds in the most painless way possible. “We have worked hard over the past few months to make the process as simple as possible for busy people” said Jaynie Hudgell (nee Parkhouse), Director of Absolute Insurance.

2. 2007 School of Coaching enrolment forms available now



Enrolments are now being taken for the SNZ 2007 School of Coaching…

It is that time of year again where you all need to think about updating your qualification and challenging your professional development and what better way to do this than attending the SNZ 2007 School of Coaching. ALL of the SNZ teaching and coaching qualifications are available at one venue – Epsom Girls Grammar in Auckland from 28th September to 7th October.

Two new modules at Assistant Swim Coach Award level will be launched at the 2007 School of Coaching. These modules are intended for coaches taking groups of young athletes 8-14 years who have between 1 and 4 years training experience. The new modules are intended to support coaches who are in small programmes or clubs and/or those who have limited or no support available from age group or senior coach with the knowledge, experience and time to mentor coach development.



3. Open Water Advisory Committee Swimming Appointments

The following people have been appointed on the SNZ Open Water Advisory Committee

The purpose of this committee is to assist SNZ with its operations of Open Water Swimming.



4. SNZ AWARDS

5. Quality Swim School (QSS) Forum at NZSCAT

On Friday May 25th the first Quality Swim School Forum is to be held at the New Zealand Swim Coaches and Teachers Conference in Wellington. This will be an opportunity for all Quality Swim Schools to influence the maintenance and improvement of the standards and services through feedback and discussion. This process will serve as an annual review of the initiative as well as set the path for next years membership and future direction and sustainability of a very well received initiative. 7. Active Movement in Water in Florida!

The 9th International World Aquatic Babies Conference (WABC) has invited Swimming New Zealand’s National Education Manager to show-case the Active Movement in Water initiative and resources which is targeted towards the teachers, parents and caregivers of early childhood. 9. Sir Peter Blake Leadership Awards

Nominations for the Sir Peter Blake Leadership Awards close 31st May. Nominations can be made at the Sir Peter Blake Website here www.sirpeterblaketrust.org Please note these leadership awards recognise leaders not just from the traditional areas of business and sport, but all areas including environment, non-profit, economic, political, cultural etc.



10. Results Awards

Three years ago SNZ implemented an innovative Results Awards scheme for Athletes and Coaches. The initiative has proven very successful for many reasons having given out over $350 000 to athletes and coaches over the past three years. This initiative has been heavily supported/subsidised by the members and SNZ. For a report on this initiative and annual financial breakdown visit the SNZ website here.



11. Newly Up-dated NZCST for Early Childhood NOW AVAILABLE!

Swimming New Zealand has updated the New Zealand Certificate in Swim Teaching Modules for Early childhood. The new Two-day course supports on going ‘on the job’ learning, assignments and assessments. The fundamental principles philosophies and key messages within this qualification are founded on a vision of “Every New Zealander swimming to their potential” and include:



· A child centred approach

· Parent/caregiver/instructor role modelling active participation

· An early disposition for activity leading to a healthy lifestyle

· Sequential, age and stage appropriate development of aquatic skills, attitudes and knowledge

· Developing fundamental movement skills during critical periods Under 6 years



and guided by the 4 principles within the NZ Early childhood curriculum; Holistic Development, Empowerment, Family and Community, and Relationships.

13. AMP Scholarships

The AMP Scholarship Programme rewards those with courage, passion, determination and commitment – those who aspire to live life to the full. They must not only have the ability, but also the ambition to achieve their chosen goal no matter what obstacles may be in their path. This year 12 AMP Scholarships of up to $10,000 will be awarded and a further fund of $80,000 will be shared amongst those who are selected as AMP Premium Scholarship winners. You may be able to apply to receive support for a sporting goal. Applications are now open, to apply you must be a NZ citizen or permanent resident.
