Community groups in the Taupo District with an arts focus are being urged to take advantage of the opportunity to get project funding through the Creative Communities Scheme.

Around $26,000 is being allocated for distribution to local groups in the latest funding round.
Annual funding for the scheme of around $40,000 is provided by Taupo District Council and Creative New Zealand. An assessment committee from Taupo Community Arts Council is responsible for assessing the applications.

Councillor Andrew Welch says a wide range of art related activities are eligible for funding.
“We want to encourage all community groups to take a good look at their projects to see if they might be eligible for arts funding.”

To qualify for the funding projects need to have an arts and/or cultural focus, take place in the Taupo District Council area and benefit local communities by increasing participation in the arts, widening the range and diversity of local arts, or enhancing and strengthening the local arts sector.

“Projects can include everything from events and festivals, seminars, workshop, dance activities or funding for art materials needed for an event or activity,” said Councillor Welch.

“Individuals that are striving for excellence in the arts with a particular project that involves community participation will also be considered,” he said.

Application forms are available from Taupo District Council offices in Taupo, Turangi and Mangakino.
Applications are now open and close on 30th May at 4pm, with the next funding round in October. Anyone wanting more information should contact Taupo District Council on 376 0899.
