University of Otago signs MoU with Ngti Toa
The University of Otago and Ngti Toa, Wellington, are today formalising their relationship with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The University and Ngti Toa already have a long-standing relationship through the University of Otago Wellington and its School of Medicine and Health Sciences, particularly the Eru PMmare Centre, which has a strong research focus on Mori health.
University Director of Mori Development Darryn Russell says today's signing looks to formalise the existing strategic relationship with Ngti Toa.
"It's a further extension of our commitment to substantive treaty relationships. We already have engagement in research and teaching through the Eru PMmare Centre in Wellington and this will build on that."
The University last year approved its Mori Strategic Framework and Mr Russell says the Ngti Toa signing, which is for six years, was another example of the framework in action.
Otago now has MoUs with several iwi and key Mori providers throughout New Zealand and continues to build on these relationships through research and teaching opportunities.
The signing takes place today at 1.30pm at the Takapuwahia Marae in Porirua.
