TARANAKI

One of North Taranaki’s most popular beaches is about to get more protection from the sea.

From the middle of this month, work will start on the construction of an additional 100m of rock wall along Urenui Beach

“The contractor will be on-site from the middle of May and it will take 14 weeks to build the 100m wall,” says Manager Projects Team Jeff Bondy.

“People should note the trucks will be going through the holiday camp anti-clockwise – against the usual flow of traffic – so they drive along the sealed section of road when they’re empty, so please take care in this area.”

If the necessary external funding is found to construct the remaining 230m of rock wall, which would protect the entire length of the beach, the full 330m could be built by the contractor in one go.
