A FINAL surge of submissions on the Manawatu District Council’s Draft Annual Plan 2008/09 is expected in the next few days as the public consultation period draws to a close.

More than 20 submissions on a variety of topics have been received by council since the DAP was presented for public comment on April 15. Submissions close at 5pm next Tuesday.

The proposed Leisureville project at Makino Park has drawn the biggest response, while other topics raised include rates, roads, the concert chamber roof at the Feilding Civic Centre and public toilet facilities.

The DAP contains information on the council’s proposed budget and works programme for the next financial year, as well as its level of rates and proposed variations to the 2006-2016 Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP).

All residents are encouraged to read the DAP, or its summary, and make a submission if they have a strong opinion on any particular issue.

Copies of the draft and summary are available free of charge from the Manawatu District Council offices, Feilding Public Library and Makino Aquatic Centre.

The plan is also available on the council website - www.mdc.govt.nz
