Hamilton 400 review process underway

The review process for the Hamilton 400 V8 event is now well underway with the appointment of the independent chairperson Peter Stubbs.

Mr Stubbs is an Auckland lawyer specialising in event and marketing law and a previous deputy chair of Tourism New Zealand.

One of the conditions of the resource consent for the V8 event is for a review to take place. While this is required to be completed within 3 months of the event, Mr Stubbs is keen to release some recommendations for changes and improvements prior to this deadline.

"Gathering feedback from the public and other interested parties about the event is a critical aspect for valuable and meaningful improvements. Feedback is being gathered through a number of channels, closing off at the end of the month to ensure the review is completed without unnecessary delay," says Mr Stubbs.

Council has already held two public meetings, with CBD retailers and hospitality providers. A further meeting for Frankton residents and business owners is scheduled for Wednesday 14 May at 6pm at the Agora Building which is at 13B Kent Street in Frankton. For people unable to attend meetings or other Hamilton residents and interested parties, feedback can be emailed to v8supercars@hcc.govt.nz  or by letter to V8 Feedback, Private Bag 3010, Hamilton.

Some of the matters to be considered by the review will include:

The effectiveness of the traffic management plan including use of buses
Impacts on Frankton and central city businesses
Overall communication
An economic impact report
The building of the track and the de-construction
General improvements that can be made for the event.
The Hamilton 400 event promoters will be heavily involved in the review.

It is also planned to have a significant involvement from the Frankton Community Liaison Committee through the review process. In order to help achieve this, Council is reviewing the composition of the committee and has put forward three Hamilton City Councillors, Angela O'Leary, Kay Gregory and John Gower to form part of the revised committee that will best represent the wider community.
